Does anyone know of the history of Fool's Day? It is a fascinating one. Those idiots who thought the new year started in Abril/April (To open/abrir) Aries (the firey new start), and Spring (when new life springs forth) followed the ancient calendars where October was the 8th month, November was the 9th and December was the 10th—
Well, they were teased, jeered, taunted and tricks were played on them to point out how silly and not modern / with the times they were.
Yes, there was an ancient calendar where there were 13 moons that coincided with 13 moonths. Sorry, months. With 13 months, every single month was exactly 28 days, the amount of a full- moon cycle meaning Monday (moonday) was always a full, half, new or half moon. 13 x 28 = 364 (plus one day of renewal/celebration).
Yup, there was once a very logical, consistent, mathematical calendar used all around the world. This was a time-keeping system where everyone would know the day of the week just by its number (Why, a Monday was always a 1, 8, 18, or 22, of course). Too simple right? Too obvious? Too logical maybe?
Look at this thing: You never had to buy a calendar again because every year looked like this.
That is until those who declared a new calendar - Julius and Agustus Cesar. (hello July and August!) Goodbye, every single timekeeping system followed by all indigenous peoples all over the world using the moon that everyone could see. The Romans, your conquerors are here to tell you what time should be now. Ah, those Romans up to something sheisty, shifty, with their, "Let's take over and twist everything ideas and got all the credit for the genius that came before us." But weren’t their gods all drunks, sex addicts, warlords, and violent drama bringers? Huh?
….Oh my, there is so much to remember about the ancient world before its twists, reversals, and new narratives.
There were natural energy patterns and mathematical relationships with the moon, the stars and the earth relating to each other. Each weekday had a certain energy, a kind of vibe. (Sunday funday? Hump day? A case of the Mondays?) Days have a certain feeling.
Each moon was important for planting, harvesting, and celebrations way back in the day. People used to be tapped into this natural rhythm and the absolute importance of this connection of the moon for life itself. Planting, Fertility. Uh. Food so people could eat, ebbs and flows of water and river systems because water is kind of important to live as well.
Life. Women used to bleed every 28 days with the moon cycle before we decided as a society to control life and sex. And anyone who goes off the pill will realize how aligned they are with the ebb and flow of the moon's changing shadow and the moon time being important for making new humans.
The rest of society of course went along with this mass normalized idea to change time and decided to make fools of anyone who would say otherwise by playing tricks on this day and we’ve been making people feel like they are dumbasses with silly pranks on April 1 ever since. And very few people ever asked why. Funny how that works.
But guys! It makes so much sense to celebrate the new birth of life in the dead of winter, right after the solstice of darkness or Christmas or whatever, right?
So for those of you who didn’t feel your fresh start or rebirth on Jan 1, maybe, you were trying to sprout too soon in harden soils and time of hibernation and didn’t know you were going against the natural rhythms and currents of our earthly plane. Humans used to actually Be outside and used to be tapped into and connected to the material world as they grew their own food, spent time with actual weather, and noticed rhythms under their feet. They also saw the moon. Now, less so…
But fear not, you fools, your true new year is beginning now.
Pardon the outdated calendar.
THIS IS WHAT EVERY CALENDAR, EVERY YEAR would look like.
But, but capitalism likes to sell us new calendars every single year.
Oh and I am sending this with the full blood moon eclipse (well close) because more people were actually paying attention to the moon. I actually think that April 1 / New Year / New moon in Aries. That would make sense, right? But I got a kick in the pants to stay up to send this out tonight from spirit after a long meditation on a basking rock looking at the moon. (I had meditated and researched this idea for months last year, thus the 2024 calendars) There is a lot more about the twists and wrinkles of time that will come… the sacred importance of the prime number 13 etc.
Also in other fun news, tomorrow is my birthday. I shall be 42 (but living my 43th year ) and I have ALWAYS felt it is my new beginning.
This is a fascinating and informative article about calendars and the way in which the new year originally began in spring, not winter, so that mankind's intuitive rhythms were naturally in tune with the planets and with the earth's new cycle of growth and rebirth, and how that system was changed by manipulative leaders wanting to gain more control over our lives. Thoroughly researched and thought-provoking. Well done, Megan!
Ah, I love the Gregorian Calendar. So straightforward, no confusion, no complications… thank you for presenting such a wonderful treatise on this. Absolutely beautiful - your words are matched only by your own glow under a moonlit sky with no electric pollution. Happy Birthday, from one Megan to another! 😊🎉
